The International Footwork Championship was born in Barcelona - Spain in May 2010 to become a pioneering approach among the international sauce competitions that until now had not given importance to the so-called "shines" or free steps.
The main objective of our event is to support and stimulate all dancers and dancers who love the genre and invite them to explore the salsa universe beyond the conventional form of the man-woman couple.
This is why it is an "Open", a competition open to both professionals and amateurs, aimed at individual dancers or same-sex couples who compete in two categories: Male and Female and who aspire to separate prizes.
What makes us different?
- To be the pioneers in promoting this modality in the world with this format.
- To have from the beginning a high participation of great professional stars of the salsa (many of them national and international champions consecrated) and of amateurs of great level.
- To offer trophies and cash prizes of more than €8,000 to be distributed.
- To offer the public the opportunity to admire 100% unpublished shows and to see the best dueling on the same stage and exposing all the styles of this modality: Salsa style L.A., New York, Puerto Rico, Caleña and Cuban among others.
- If we add to this that since its first edition competitors from Venezuela, Argentina, Colombia and Italy have been encouraged to participate, as well as other dancers based in Spain from Cuba, Puerto Rico, Chile, Ecuador, Brazil, Jordan, Uruguay and the Dominican Republic, it is confirmed that we are in the presence of a truly international event and that every year foreign participation increases to a great extent.

- Its director, journalist and Latin rhythms teacher Evelyn Viana (La Negra) created this competition that faces its fourth edition with more strength than ever and with the backing of having again dancers of the highest quality and a first class international jury. This year the event has the collaboration of AR Diamante Beach SPA Hotel & Convention Centre.
- The next International Salsa Free Steps Championship will take place in AR Diamante Beach SPA Hotel & Convention Centre, Calpe, Spain.
